MicroRNA 4688 (miR-4688, also known as hsa-mir-4688 or MIR4688) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule classified as a microRNA, found in humans. Like other microRNAs, it is transcribed from the genome, processed by the enzymes Drosha and Dicer, and incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) where it can bind to target messenger RNAs (mRNAs) to inhibit their translation or promote degradation. microRNAs are key regulators of gene expression at the post-transcriptional level[1][2][4]. There is currently no evidence that miR-4688 itself is a validated therapeutic target or is directly implicated in particular diseases, nor are there known drugs or biomarkers associated with this specific microRNA. Its biological role is presumed to be consistent with the general function of microRNAs in fine-tuning gene expression, but the specifics of its targets and any physiological or pathological roles remain to be established[3].
