Overview

MicroRNA 4693 (miR-4693, also known as MIR4693 or hsa-mir-4693) is a short, non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA family. MicroRNAs regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally, primarily by binding to complementary sequences in the 3′UTR of target mRNAs, resulting in translational repression or mRNA degradation[2][4][6]. MiR-4693-5p has been shown to specifically target the TRIP13 gene in colorectal cancer, acting as a tumor suppressor by downregulating TRIP13 expression and thereby influencing cancer cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression[1]. Like other microRNAs, MIR4693 may play pleiotropic roles in various cellular contexts and diseases, but definitive disease roles outside cancer remain to be established[1][2][4]. MicroRNAs are not traditionally classified as "therapeutic targets" in the same sense as receptors or enzymes, but their dysregulation can be pathogenic, and restoration or inhibition of specific microRNAs is under investigation as a therapeutic strategy in some diseases[2][5]. MIR4693 itself is best viewed as a regulator of target mRNA(s), not a direct drug target.
