Overview

MicroRNA 4706 (MIR4706) is a single-stranded, short, non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) class, typically 20–24 nucleotides in length[1]. Like other miRNAs, MIR4706 functions in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, mainly by binding within the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to complementary sequences in target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to mRNA destabilization or translational inhibition[1][5][6]. The MIR4706 locus generates a stem-loop precursor transcript that is processed by Drosha and Dicer enzymes to produce the mature functional miRNA[1]. General biological roles of microRNAs include regulation of numerous cellular processes such as cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and maintenance of physiological homeostasis, but no direct individual function or disease correlations have been established for MIR4706 in available literature[1][5][6].
