Overview

MicroRNA 4712 (MIR4712) is a small non-coding RNA belonging to the class of microRNAs, which regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to complementary sequences on target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to translational inhibition or mRNA degradation. MIR4712 has been shown to be upregulated in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma tissues and cell lines, where it promotes proliferation and invasion by directly targeting the tumor suppressor PTEN, thereby activating the AKT/cyclin D1 pathway. As with other miRNAs, dysregulation of MIR4712 can potentially contribute to pathological processes, most notably cancer[3][5]. There are no approved drugs known to target MIR4712 directly, but its expression level might be explored as a biomarker in relevant malignancies.
