MicroRNA 4716 (MIR4716) is a small non-coding RNA involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to the 3′ untranslated region (3′ UTR) of target mRNAs, thereby influencing mRNA stability and translation[1][2]. Its dysregulation has been associated with increased blood cancer risk via reduced expression, which enhances expression of oncogenic targets such as the AKT2 gene. It may serve as a biomarker for disease diagnosis and prognosis, with potential utility in other malignancies (spinal chordoma, colorectal cancer) and resistance to anticancer drugs. Genetic polymorphisms altering miRNA-4716 binding sites (e.g., AKT2 rs2304186 SNP) can modulate its effect. MIR4716 participates broadly in cellular signaling, apoptosis, immune response, and other critical biological functions and disease pathways[1][2]. No approved drugs directly target miR-4716. Safety concerns specific to MIR4716 modulation are not currently described, but therapeutic interventions targeting miRNAs can present challenges regarding off-target effects and global gene expression disruption[1][2].
