microRNA 4719 (miR-4719, hsa-mir-4719, MIR4719) is a small non-coding RNA molecule classified as a microRNA, which regulates target gene expression by binding to complementary sequences in messenger RNA (mRNA), mainly leading to mRNA degradation or inhibition of translation. miR-4719 has been identified as a post-transcriptional regulator of Interleukin-24 (IL-24) by binding to the 3’ untranslated region (3’UTR) of its mRNA. In prostate cancer, miR-4719 is significantly overexpressed in castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) cell lines compared to indolent and normal prostate cells. Overexpression of miR-4719 reduces IL-24 levels, thereby promoting increased cancer cell proliferation and migration; conversely, inhibition of miR-4719 increases IL-24 and suppresses these cancerous behaviors. miR-4719 may serve as a candidate biomarker for aggressive disease and has potential diagnostic and therapeutic value for risk stratification and management in prostate cancer, especially in the context of racial disparities[1][2].
