microRNA 4730 (miR-4730) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule expressed in humans which regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally—primarily by binding the 3′ untranslated region (3′ UTR) of specific mRNAs, such as HMGA1, leading to their degradation or translational repression[1][3][4]. miR-4730 is notably underexpressed in liver cancer tissues, and its overexpression suppresses tumor cell proliferation, cell cycle progression, and drives apoptosis. Functionally, it acts as a tumor suppressor by targeting HMGA1, thereby inhibiting the ILK/Akt/GSK3β pathway, which is essential for cancer cell growth and survival[1]. Clinical evidence suggests its expression level is prognostically valuable for liver cancer outcomes. Studies also associate its downregulation with HBV/HCV infection in liver cancer. Given these properties, miR-4730 is emerging both as a biomarker for patient stratification and a candidate for miRNA-based therapeutics, although practical applications face notable delivery and specificity hurdles[1][4].
