Overview

MicroRNA 4734 (MIR4734) is a small, non-coding RNA gene in humans that produces a mature microRNA molecule via a multi-step process. It is first transcribed as a primary transcript (pri-miRNA) and then processed by enzymes Drosha and Dicer to generate the mature miRNA. The mature MIR4734 is incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), where it specifically regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to target mRNAs—generally resulting in translational inhibition or mRNA degradation. The gene is annotated as part of the miRNA family and does not have characterized disease associations, therapeutic drugs, or biomarker applications at present. Its function is typical of the microRNA class, which has wide-ranging regulatory impacts throughout cellular biology and is essential for fine-tuning gene expression in multicellular organisms.
