Overview

MicroRNA-4735 (miR-4735) is a short non-coding RNA molecule that belongs to the microRNA family, which is involved in post-transcriptional gene silencing in human cells. MicroRNAs function by binding to complementary sequences in the 3′-untranslated region (3′UTR) of target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to mRNA degradation or inhibition of translation[5][6]. miR-4735-3p, one of its mature strands, has been shown to suppress cell migration and invasion in gastric cancer by directly targeting and downregulating NEDD9, a scaffolding protein implicated in cancer metastasis[1]. In clear cell renal cell carcinoma, miR-4735-3p facilitates a type of programmed cell death known as ferroptosis by targeting SLC40A1, an iron transporter, thereby promoting tumor suppression[2]. Reduced levels of miR-4735-3p have been observed in various cancers, and its downregulation correlates with larger tumor sizes and higher clinical grades[1][2]. There are currently no drugs known to directly target miR-4735, and it is not considered a canonical therapeutic target in the sense of being a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but rather it acts as a regulatory RNA influencing cancer biology and, potentially, serving as a biomarker for cancer progression[1][2].
