Overview

MicroRNA 4736 is a member of the microRNA family, comprising short (20–24 nucleotides) non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression after transcription. Like other microRNAs, MIR4736 is produced via transcription by RNA polymerase II, processed through Drosha and Dicer nucleases, and incorporated into the RISC complex, guiding it to target mRNAs through imperfect complementarity. In recent studies, MIR4736 has emerged as a promising circulating biomarker for the diagnosis of sarcomas, performing with high accuracy and sensitivity when included as part of a multi-miRNA panel. Its main biological roles, typical of microRNAs, are fine-tuning gene expression, maintaining cell fate, and buffering against internal and external cellular perturbations. MIR4736 is not known to act as a conventional receptor, enzyme, transporter, or directly interact with drugs, but its dysregulation reflects cancerous changes and potential malignancy, highlighting its value in cancer diagnostics.
