Overview

MicroRNA 4743 is a small, non-coding RNA molecule from the microRNA family, expressed in humans as hsa-mir-4743. Like other microRNAs, it is involved in regulating gene expression post-transcriptionally, usually by binding to complementary sequences on target mRNAs, resulting in translational repression or mRNA degradation. Its dysregulation (notably the 5p strand, hsa-miR-4743-5p) has been observed in patients with type 2 diabetes and coronary artery disease, suggesting a biomarker role and possible involvement in the molecular pathways influencing vascular function, metabolism, and cellular adhesion. A broader functional context suggests that MIR4743, through its target genes, may participate in cellular signaling, calcium ion binding, cytoskeletal organization, and several signal transduction pathways relevant to disease processes. However, it is not currently a direct drug target, and research is ongoing to clarify its specific roles and downstream effects in human health and disease.
