Overview

microRNA 4749 (miR-4749) is a small non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) family, typically 22 nucleotides in length, that regulates gene expression by binding to messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and inhibiting their translation or promoting degradation[1][3]. miR-4749 has been found to be abnormally expressed in various diseases including hepatocellular carcinoma, rectal cancer, and polycystic ovary syndrome[1]. It has also demonstrated a tumor-suppressive function, notably in glioblastoma, by interacting with Replication Factor C subunit 2[1]. miR-4749 forms complexes with proteins such as human serum albumin (HSA) and the DNA binding domain of p53, suggesting roles in miRNA transport and interaction with key regulatory pathways in the cell[1]. While it is not itself a therapeutic target like a receptor or enzyme, altered levels of miR-4749 are associated with disease states, and its interactions may inform the development of RNA-based biomarkers or novel delivery systems[1].
