Overview

MicroRNA 4766 (MIR4766) is a small non-coding RNA gene expressed in humans[1]. As a member of the microRNA family, it regulates the stability and translation of messenger RNAs (mRNAs), usually through imperfect base pairing, resulting in either translational inhibition or mRNA destabilization[1][4]. MicroRNAs are implicated in the control of key biological processes, including cell division, differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, and epigenetic gene regulation[2][4]. MIR4766 has disease associations including congenital stromal corneal dystrophy, and, by extrapolation from miRNA biology, may play roles in cancer development or progression as an oncogene or as a tumor suppressor, depending on context[2][1]. No specific drugs targeting MIR4766 are currently described, but modulators of microRNA function are under active investigation in oncology and other therapeutic fields[2].
