MicroRNA 4780 is a member of the microRNA class, comprising short (20–24 nucleotides) non-coding RNAs that function in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. MicroRNAs are transcribed as primary miRNA transcripts (pri-miRNAs), processed by Drosha and Dicer enzymes to form mature miRNAs. These mature forms are loaded into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), where they bind target mRNAs through partial sequence complementarity—usually in the 3' untranslated region (3' UTR)—resulting in inhibition of translation or destabilization and degradation of the mRNA. The specific targets and functions of microRNA 4780 have not yet been well characterized, but in general, microRNAs play key roles in regulating processes such as cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and response to environmental stimuli. Dysregulation of microRNAs has been widely implicated in the pathogenesis of diseases including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and inflammation. While microRNAs as a molecular family are of clinical interest for biomarker discovery and therapeutic intervention, there is currently very limited or no published information specific to biological roles, disease connection, or drug interaction for microRNA 4780 itself beyond basic sequence data and RNA class. The entry is correct, but the lack of functional characterization may limit its utility for downstream drug/discovery pipelines at this time.
