MicroRNA 4784 is a small non-coding RNA molecule transcribed from the MIR4784 gene in humans. It functions as a post-transcriptional regulator by binding to complementary sequences in the 3′ untranslated region (UTR) of target mRNAs, leading to translational repression or degradation of these mRNAs. Recent research has linked MIR4784 to tumor suppressor activity in hepatocellular carcinoma—by downregulating oncogenes such as SSRP1—and in other cancer types, where its reduced expression correlates with poor prognosis. Additionally, in osteoarthritis, MIR4784 is downregulated in chondrocytes, and its restoration improves chondrocyte function via increased collagen expression and decreased matrix metalloproteinase-3, suggesting a protective role in cartilage maintenance and osteoarthritis progression[2][4]. As of 2024, no direct pharmacological modulators or therapeutics target MIR4784, but its unique expression patterns and disease associations point to potential future applications as a biomarker or gene therapy target. There is no evidence that MIR4784 is currently a direct therapeutic target of any approved drug or biologic. Its main roles described so far are as a non-coding regulator of gene expression in specific disease states, mostly cancer and osteoarthritis. No interacting drugs or safety concerns are listed in current literature, and its mechanisms, functions, and disease associations remain under exploration[2][4].
