Overview

MicroRNA 4787 (miR-4787), also known as hsa-miR-4787, is a small non-coding RNA that regulates gene expression by binding to the 3′ untranslated regions (3′UTRs) of target messenger RNAs, leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation. MiR-4787-3p is notably upregulated in aggressive breast cancer subtypes and facilitates tumor growth, in part, by downregulating tumor suppressor genes such as ARHGAP17, FOXO3A, and PDCD4. Inhibition of miR-4787-3p suppresses tumorsphere formation, indicating an oncogenic role and its candidacy as a therapeutic target. Clinically, circulating miR-4787-3p has shown promise as a highly accurate, non-invasive diagnostic and prognostic biomarker across a spectrum of human cancers, with elevated levels correlating with poor prognosis in breast cancer and roles in ovarian and other cancers emerging through machine learning-based biomarker discovery.
