MicroRNA 4791 (MIR4791, also known as hsa-mir-4791) is a small, single-stranded, non-coding RNA molecule that functions as a microRNA in humans[4][5]. Like other microRNAs, it regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level by binding to target mRNAs, resulting in mRNA degradation or translational repression[4][3]. Chemically-modified oligonucleotide inhibitors have been developed to target mature microRNAs such as MIR4791 and prevent their gene-regulating actions[5]. MicroRNAs as a class play broad roles in cell differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, and disease, but there are no specific data suggesting unique disease associations or biomarker status for microRNA 4791 at this time. *Note: Most available information addresses microRNAs as a group; there is little to no target-specific data available for MIR4791.
