microRNA 4798 (MIR4798, also known as hsa-mir-4798 or hsa-miR-4798-3p) is a small, ~22-nucleotide, non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the family of microRNAs (miRNAs) found in humans[2][5][6][7]. microRNAs function as post-transcriptional regulators, binding to complementary sequences on messenger RNAs (mRNAs) to repress expression or promote mRNA degradation[5][6][7]. MIR4798 appears in profiling screens and has been studied as a circulating biomarker in myocardial infarction, where its blood levels increase after surgical intervention[2]. While its mechanistic roles are less established than those of other, more extensively researched microRNAs, like miR-1 or miR-133, the general functions of microRNAs include the regulation of cell proliferation, apoptosis, and inflammation[2][5][6]. Specific gene targets or disease mechanisms for MIR4798 remain to be elucidated in the scientific literature, and no drugs are known to directly target this miRNA.
