MicroRNA-483-3p (miR-483-3p) is a small non-coding RNA molecule located within the second intron of the insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) gene [1]. It plays a critical role in post-transcriptional gene regulation by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of various target mRNAs, such as PUMA and SMAD4, thereby inhibiting their translation or promoting their degradation [2]. miR-483-3p is frequently dysregulated in several human malignancies, including hepatocellular carcinoma and adrenocortical tumors, where it often acts as an oncomiR by promoting cell survival and proliferation [3]. Beyond oncology, it is implicated in metabolic disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and type 2 diabetes, as well as cardiovascular conditions [4]. Therapeutic strategies currently focus on the use of antisense oligonucleotides (antagomirs) to inhibit its activity in overexpressing tissues or miRNA mimics to restore function where it is lost. However, clinical translation is challenged by the need for precise delivery systems and the potential for off-target effects due to the broad regulatory network of the miRNA.
