Overview

microRNA-484 (miR-484) is a small, non-coding RNA involved in regulating gene expression at the post-transcriptional level by binding to messenger RNAs and suppressing translation or promoting degradation. It participates in key cellular processes including apoptosis, cell proliferation, differentiation, mitochondrial fission regulation (especially via suppression of the Fis1 protein), glucolipid metabolism, and response to cellular stress. Deregulation of miR-484 expression has been observed in various diseases—including multiple cancers, cardiovascular conditions, metabolic disorders, and possibly neurodevelopmental syndromes—making it a biomarker and potential therapeutic target, although no approved drugs directly target miR-484 at present. Differences in miR-484 expression can influence cellular fate under stress or injury, with possible involvement in both disease pathogenesis and tissue protection or repair.
