MicroRNA 485 (MIR485) is a small, non-coding RNA that post-transcriptionally regulates gene expression by binding to target mRNAs, leading to their translational repression or destabilization[3][5]. It is processed from a precursor transcript to yield mature miRNA strands (miR-485-3p and miR-485-5p) that are incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC)[3]. MIR485 acts as a tumor suppressor in several cancers by directly inhibiting target genes involved in cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and metabolic adaptation[4][8][9]. In addition to its role in oncology, MIR485 regulates lipid metabolism, is implicated in inflammation, neurological diseases, and modulates immune responses by targeting genes such as RIG-I, affecting antiviral defense mechanisms[1][2][6]. Recognized as a potential prognostic and diagnostic biomarker, MIR485 is under study for its therapeutic use in engineered vectors or miRNA mimics, though the broad regulatory function of microRNAs poses potential safety and delivery challenges[1][6].
