It plays roles in diverse processes, including inhibiting neuronal cell death and neuroinflammation in Alzheimer's disease models by targeting AKT3, suppressing proliferation, migration, and invasion in pancreatic cancer cells, and modulating immune responses such as in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis and asthma. In viral infections like influenza A, miR-485-3p promotes pathogen replication by degrading RIG-I mRNA and impairing antiviral defenses. Dysregulation occurs in conditions like muscle satellite cell survival, where its downregulation upregulates cell death genes, and in Wnt pathway modulation via targets like FZD4 and RAC-1. Elevated serum levels serve as a diagnostic biomarker for Alzheimer's disease, correlating with cognitive decline and inflammation, while its knockdown shows neuroprotective effects. As a potential therapeutic target, inhibiting miR-485-3p could mitigate neurodegeneration or cancer progression, though challenges include off-target effects on immune and survival pathways.
