Overview

MicroRNA 486-2 (MIR486-2) is a gene encoding a non-coding RNA of the microRNA family, producing mature forms such as miR-486-5p and miR-486-3p[3][5]. These microRNAs regulate gene expression by destabilizing or inhibiting translation of target mRNAs within the cell. miR-486-2 is implicated in multiple cancer types, particularly non-small cell lung cancer, where it is both a diagnostic/prognostic biomarker and a modulator of immune response and tumor biology[1][5]. Functional pathways influenced by this microRNA include cell cycle progression, apoptosis, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, chemoresistance, and immune cell infiltration[1]. Research highlights its pleiotropic effects on cancer risk, progression, and therapeutic resistance, but MIR486-2 is not a protein, receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and thus is not considered a classic therapeutic target[3][5].

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (microRNAs act by regulating translation and stability of messenger RNAs, not by serving as binding targets for conventional drugs)
