microRNA 5004 (MIR5004) is a predicted microRNA located on chromosome 6p21.32. MicroRNAs are short (20–24 nucleotides) non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally by affecting the stability and translation of mRNAs. Their primary transcript is processed by Drosha and Dicer ribonucleases to generate the mature microRNA, which is loaded into RISC for gene silencing. MIR5004 has not been experimentally characterized and lacks evidence for a defined biological function, specific mRNA targets, disease relevance, or clinical utility. It is not currently regarded as a therapeutic target and its role in human physiology or pathology remains unclear.
