MicroRNA 5010 (MIR5010) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule (microRNA) implicated in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. It functions by binding to complementary sequences on target messenger RNAs, leading to inhibition of translation or mRNA degradation. MIR5010, particularly the miR-5010-5p strand, has been identified as upregulated in the exosomes of patients with diabetic kidney disease. Experimental evidence demonstrates that miR-5010-5p exerts anti-inflammatory effects in renal tubular epithelial cells under high-glucose conditions by targeting the gene PPP2R2D, a regulatory subunit of protein phosphatase 2A. This interaction reduces inflammation by modulating histone phosphatase activity, increasing AMPK phosphorylation, and suppressing NF-κB signaling. MIR5010 has not yet been targeted by clinical drugs, but is a promising biomarker and therapeutic candidate in diabetic kidney disease[1][2].
Not established for clinical agents. For experimental modulation: - miR-5010-5p mimic: Reduces inflammatory cytokine production by targeting PPP2R2D, decreases PP2A activity, increases AMPK phosphorylation, reduces NF-κB pathway activation[1].
