Overview

microRNA 5011 (MIR5011) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule transcribed by the human genome. It functions as a post-transcriptional regulator, binding to specific sequences in the 3’ untranslated regions (UTRs) of mRNAs and promoting their degradation or inhibiting their translation, thereby modulating gene expression. Expression of MIR5011 is reduced in various tumor tissues, including colorectal cancer, and it is predicted to act as a tumor suppressor by downregulating genes involved in oncogenic signaling pathways such as TGF-beta and Wnt. Its regulatory effects span multiple cellular processes, including cell cycle progression, cell death, and signal transduction. While not directly targeted by approved drugs, MIR5011 and related microRNAs are the focus of ongoing research into RNA-based biomarkers and therapeutics for cancer and other diseases
