MicroRNA 5047 (miR-5047, also called hsa-mir-5047 or MIR5047) is a small non-coding RNA located on human chromosome 17 and part of the microRNA family. Like other microRNAs, miR-5047 regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level by binding to target mRNAs and promoting their degradation or inhibiting their translation. There is limited information on the specific function of miR-5047, but in silico prediction tools suggest it targets several hundred mRNAs, including NBL1 (a modulator of bone morphogenetic factor signaling) and Drosha ribonuclease III, an enzyme critical for microRNA processing. Overexpression of miR-5047 may potentially influence apoptosis and cell proliferation in certain cells, such as medulloblastoma (a type of brain tumor) cells, through these targets. However, there are no current reports of miR-5047 being a therapeutic target, biomarker, or having relevant drug interactions. The biological and disease relevance of miR-5047 remains largely unexplored.
