MicroRNA 5091 (MIR5091) is part of the microRNA gene family, encoding a mature microRNA molecule that participates in gene regulatory networks by binding complementary sequences in target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), commonly in their 3' untranslated regions (3' UTRs), and directing either translational repression or mRNA degradation. The canonical microRNA biogenesis pathway for MIR5091, as for other miRNAs, involves transcription from its genomic locus to create a primary microRNA (pri-miRNA), processing by the microprocessor complex (Drosha and DGCR8) to a precursor microRNA (pre-miRNA), export to the cytoplasm, and final maturation via Dicer cleavage to create a functional miRNA duplex. This duplex is loaded into Argonaute (AGO) proteins, forming the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which mediates target gene silencing[1][3]. MicroRNAs like MIR5091 may have cell-type- and tissue-specific expression but, for MIR5091 in particular, there is limited functional or disease association data, and it is not characterized as a therapeutic target or receptor.
