Overview

MicroRNA 5100 (miR-5100, also known as hsa-miR-5100 or MIR5100) is a short non-coding RNA molecule involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to target messenger RNAs and either inhibiting their translation or promoting their degradation[2]. It is transcribed as part of a primary transcript, processed into a precursor, and then matured to interact with the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). MIR5100 is implicated in the regulation of genes relevant to cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cancer pathways and has been identified as differentially expressed in various cancers such as ovarian and pancreatic cancer, where its expression correlates with disease states and prognosis[1][2]. MIR5100 may serve as a non-invasive biomarker for cancer detection and monitoring, but its value as a direct drug target is not currently established in clinical pharmacology[1][2].
