MicroRNA 513c (miR-513c)

Target
miR-513c
Molecular classification
MicroRNA, Regulatory non-coding RNA, miRNA gene family
01

Overview

MicroRNA 513c is a short non-coding RNA (miRNA) molecule that acts as a post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression, primarily through the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). It targets specific mRNAs for translational inhibition or destabilization. miR-513c has been implicated in suppressing proliferation of certain cancer cells, such as glioblastoma, by repressing key genes (e.g., LRP6). Diseases associated with mutations or dysregulation of MIR513C include hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and male infertility. It belongs to the broader class of microRNAs responsible for fine-tuning gene expression in various biological and disease processes

Mechanism of action

Small molecule or oligonucleotide approaches could theoretically modulate miR-513c levels or its interaction with target mRNAs (antisense inhibition, mimicry), but no evidence for current clinical agents

03

Biological functions

Post-transcriptional gene regulation (influences mRNA stability and translation)Regulation of cell proliferation (e.g., suppresses glioblastoma proliferation by targeting LRP6)Possible involvement in immune modulation and other cellular processes via modulation of mRNA targets
04

Disease associations

Cancer (association with glioblastoma, hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, and male infertility)Potential implications in signaling pathways and disease states via mRNA target regulation
05

Safety considerations

No specific documented safety concerns; general challenges with microRNA-targeted therapies include off-target effects and delivery
06

Biomarkers

miR-513c expression levels (potential biomarker for some cancers or associated disorders, but no clinical validation)
