Overview

MicroRNA 514a-1 (miR-514a-1) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA class, which modulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to mRNA and inhibiting its translation or promoting its degradation[1][3]. It is encoded on the X chromosome at locus MIR514A1 (and closely related loci) and is primarily conserved in higher primates such as humans and chimpanzees but absent in rodents[1][3]. MiR-514a-1 plays a crucial role in human neuronal development by promoting dendritic growth and activating the mTOR signaling pathway[1]. In addition, it has been implicated as a tumor suppressor in various human cancers and may be associated with several tumor subtypes[1][3][5]. There is currently no evidence for direct drug targeting or its use as a routine clinical biomarker.
