Overview

MicroRNA 514a-3 (miR-514a-3p) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule that acts by post-transcriptionally regulating gene expression, primarily by binding to target mRNAs leading to their translational repression or degradation[2]. It is a member of an X-linked miRNA cluster with multiple genomic loci and is expressed in primates (including humans) but not in rodents[1][2]. miR-514a-3 is particularly implicated in the regulation of neuronal development: it promotes dendritic growth, increases neuronal soma size, and upregulates mTOR signaling[1]. It is also suggested to be involved in evolutionary features of primate brains and is aberrantly expressed in certain neurological disorders[1][2]. Direct disease associations or therapeutic targeting approaches remain under investigation.
