Overview

MicroRNA 515-1 (miR-515-1) is a non-coding RNA molecule of the microRNA class involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. It is processed from primary transcripts into a mature miRNA that becomes part of the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), where it binds to target mRNAs with partially complementary sequences, most often resulting in inhibition of translation or degradation of the mRNA. MIR515-1 is linked with disease processes such as ovarian cancer and placenta previa, and generally functions through fine-tuning of cellular gene expression programs related to cell proliferation, differentiation, and immune response. It is not a receptor or enzyme but acts as a non-coding RNA regulator in a wide range of cellular contexts[1][3].
