Target intelligence / Profile preview

MicroRNA 516a-1 (MIR516A1)

Target
MIR516A1
Molecular classification
microRNA, non-coding RNA
01

Overview

MicroRNA 516a-1 is a small (20–24 nt) non-coding RNA transcribed as part of a primary microRNA transcript; after processing, the mature form regulates gene expression primarily via recognition and inhibition of target mRNAs. In cancer, especially bladder cancer, miR-516a-1 promotes metastasis and invasion by modulating the PHLPP2/AKT/FOXO3A/SMURF1/MMP9 pathway, making it a potential diagnostic and therapeutic target for metastatic disease[1][3].

Mechanism of action

translational inhibition and destabilization of target mRNAs via the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC); promotes metastasis by downregulating PHLPP2, activating the AKT/FOXO3A/SMURF1 axis, stabilizing MMP9, and increasing cell motility/invasion[1][3]
