MIR516A2
Molecular classification
microRNA, non-coding RNA, RNA gene

Overview

MicroRNA 516a-2 is a small non-coding RNA molecule encoded by the human MIR516A2 gene. Its main function is to regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level by binding to target mRNAs, leading to inhibition of translation or degradation of the mRNA. Like other miRNAs, MIR516A2 is processed from a precursor RNA through multiple enzymatic steps (e.g., Drosha, Dicer), and incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) for its regulatory activity[4]. The specific biological targets and functions of MIR516A2 in humans are not as well characterized as for some other miRNAs, but it is part of a large miRNA family broadly involved in gene regulatory networks impacting cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis[2][4][5].
