MicroRNA 517c is a small, non-coding RNA molecule (miRNA) that regulates gene expression by targeting messenger RNAs (mRNAs) for degradation or translational repression. It is encoded within the primate-specific C19MC cluster located at chromosome 19q13.42 and is highly expressed in certain stem cell types and tumors. Overexpression of miR-517c and related cluster members has been linked to enhanced cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, particularly in hepatocellular carcinoma and angiosarcoma, suggesting an oncogenic ("oncomiR") role. miR-517c and its cluster associates are being investigated as potential biomarkers and molecular targets for cancer diagnosis and treatment[1][2][3][5].
