microRNA 5188 (MIR5188) is a member of the microRNA family, a class of non-coding RNAs approximately 19–25 nucleotides long. These molecules are transcribed as part of primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that form stem-loop hairpin structures and are processed by Drosha and Dicer enzymes to generate mature microRNAs. Mature MIR5188 is incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (miRISC) and binds to partially complementary sequences in target mRNAs, most commonly in the 3' untranslated region. This binding promotes translational repression or mRNA degradation, thus controlling gene expression post-transcriptionally. Like other microRNAs, MIR5188 is likely involved in fine-tuning various biological processes, with potential roles in cancer and as a biomarker for disease, though specific disease associations are not well defined in current literature[1][2][3][4][5].
