Overview

MicroRNA 518a-2 (MIR518A2) is a short, non-coding RNA molecule, classified as a microRNA, involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms[1][4]. MicroRNAs are transcribed as primary transcripts and sequentially processed by Drosha and Dicer RNases to produce a mature miRNA, which then becomes part of the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) and regulates target mRNAs through translational inhibition or mRNA degradation[1][3][4]. While broad classes of microRNAs are known to play essential regulatory roles in cancer and other diseases, there is currently no evidence that MIR518A2 itself functions as a direct therapeutic target or has clinically validated drug interactions[1][4].
