MicroRNA 518e (MIR518E) is a small non-coding RNA molecule that belongs to the microRNA (miRNA) class. MicroRNAs are typically 20-24 nucleotides in length and play essential roles in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to complementary sequences on target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), mainly resulting in translational repression or target degradation. MIR518E is transcribed as a primary transcript and processed by Drosha and Dicer enzymes into its mature form, which becomes part of the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). Although the specific biological functions and disease associations of MIR518E are not yet fully characterized, it is part of a large network of miRNAs that can regulate numerous human genes. Like other miRNAs, MIR518E may have tissue- and cell type-specific roles and could contribute to the regulation of key biological processes and disease pathways, including reproductive system function and potentially cancer[1][3][4].
