MicroRNA 5193 (miR-5193) is a small non-coding RNA molecule in the microRNA family, functioning primarily as a tumor suppressor[1]. It can post-transcriptionally downregulate programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in cancer cells, a key regulator of immune evasion. Low circulating levels of miR-5193 are associated with advanced disease and poor prognosis in gastric cancer. Experimentally, overexpression or therapeutic delivery of miR-5193 reduces PD-L1 levels on tumor cells, thereby enhancing T cell–mediated anti-tumor responses both in vitro and in vivo. miR-5193 is being explored as a biomarker for cancer progression and as a potential candidate for nucleic acid–based cancer immunotherapy. No direct pharmacological inhibitors or small-molecule drugs are in use, but miRNA mimics are under investigation for therapeutic application. Currently, no major safety signals have been identified in preclinical studies[1].
