microRNA 519b is a small, non-coding RNA of approximately 22 nucleotides, encoded within the primate-specific C19MC miRNA gene cluster on chromosome 19. It acts as a post-transcriptional regulator by binding target mRNAs, most notably repressing translation of the oncogenic RNA-binding protein HuR, thereby functioning as a tumor suppressor in several cancers by inhibiting cell proliferation and tumorigenesis[1][2]. The expression of miR-519b and other C19MC cluster members is implicated in cancer, with variable roles that can include both tumor suppression and oncogenic activity depending on cellular context and tumor type. miR-519b is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or conventional therapeutic target, but dysregulation of its expression is relevant for cancer biology and potentially as a diagnostic or prognostic biomarker[1][2][3].
