MicroRNA 519c (miR-519c) is a primate-specific, small non-coding RNA processed from the C19MC cluster located on chromosome 19q13.41-42. It serves as a post-transcriptional regulator by binding to specific regions of target mRNAs, repressing their translation or facilitating degradation. miR-519c is implicated in controlling cell proliferation, cell cycle, and apoptosis primarily by targeting mRNAs such as HuR (ELAVL1) and HIF-1α, thereby affecting cancer cell growth and response to microenvironmental stress. miR-519c is downregulated in several cancers, such as breast and pancreatic cancer, and has been explored as a tumor suppressor, a biomarker, and an element of experimental combination therapeutics to overcome drug resistance[1][2][3][5].
