Overview

MicroRNA-520h (miR-520h) is a member of the microRNA-520 family, classified as a small non-coding RNA molecule involved in post-transcriptional gene regulation. It modulates the expression of key target genes involved in cancer-related pathways, such as Smad7 and PP2A/C, impacting the TGF-β/Smad and NF-κB/Twist signaling axes. miR-520h has been shown to promote cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) in multiple cancer types, including ovarian, breast, and cervical cancers. In clinical samples, overexpression of miR-520h correlates with poor prognosis and increased metastatic capacity, particularly in epithelial ovarian cancer. Experimental modulation of miR-520h levels alters cancer cell behavior in vitro and in vivo, further supporting its role in cancer progression. While miR-520h itself is not a receptor or enzyme, its role as a regulatory RNA makes it a relevant therapeutic and biomarker target in oncology[1][2].
