Overview

MicroRNA 545 (miR-545) is a short, non-coding RNA molecule that functions in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to complementary sequences in target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to translational repression or degradation of these mRNAs[5]. miR-545 has been implicated as a tumor suppressor in several types of cancers, including ovarian, gastric, and liver cancer. It exerts its biological effects by inhibiting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, EMT, and angiogenesis, and by promoting apoptosis[1][2][3]. Key direct and indirect mRNA targets regulated by miR-545 include PLK1, KDM4B, and EMS1[1][2]. Reduced expression of miR-545 is often associated with a poorer prognosis in cancer patients, making it a potential prognostic biomarker and an investigational target for RNA-based anticancer therapies[1][2][3][5].
