Overview

MicroRNA 548a-2 (MIR548A2) is a human microRNA belonging to the miR-548 family, characterized as a short (20–24 nucleotides) non-coding RNA that exerts regulatory effects by targeting mRNAs for inhibition of translation or destabilization. It is derived from MADE1 transposable elements, a hallmark of primate specificity within the miR-548 family[1][4]. MIR548A2 plays roles in processes such as migration and invasion in cancer cells, and may influence epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) through the regulation of target pathways such as the AHR pathway. Current evidence suggests a role as a tumor suppressor miRNA in breast cancer with the ability to downregulate genes that promote EMT and metastasis[2]. No current evidence suggests therapeutic targeting or interaction with approved drugs.
