MicroRNA-548ab is a member of the large and poorly conserved miR-548 family of microRNAs found in humans. Like other microRNAs, it is a small non-coding RNA molecule that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to target mRNAs. While the global roles of MIR548AB are still being elucidated, members of the miR-548 family, including miR-548ab, are implicated in diverse cellular functions such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion, and epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT). These activities underlie its potential involvement in cancer, particularly in processes related to metastasis. In addition, the family is involved in the regulation of immune responses and inflammatory signaling.
