MicroRNA 548ag-2 (MIR548AG2) is a member of the mir-548 microRNA family, which encodes a small non-coding RNA molecule involved in post-transcriptional gene silencing. Like other microRNAs, MIR548AG2 is transcribed as a primary transcript, processed in the nucleus and cytoplasm to yield a 20–24 nucleotide mature miRNA. This mature miRNA is incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). There, through imperfect base-pairing with target mRNAs, MIR548AG2 predominantly leads to translational inhibition or destabilization of its mRNA targets. The function of miR-548ag-2 as an oncogene has been demonstrated in the context of obesity-related endometrial cancer, where it suppresses MOB1B, thereby promoting malignancy[1].
