Overview

MicroRNA 548at (MIR548AT, also hsa-mir-548at) is a member of the large microRNA-548 family, which are non-coding RNAs approximately 20–24 nucleotides in length and function primarily in "post-transcriptional regulation" of gene expression[3]. Like other microRNAs, MIR548AT regulates gene expression by binding to complementary sequences in the 3′ untranslated region (3′ UTR) of target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to mRNA degradation or inhibition of translation[4]. While the specific biological functions and validated targets of MIR548AT remain largely uncharacterized in the literature, members of the miR-548 family are generally implicated in processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion, often with relevance to "cancer progression" and particularly in roles related to metastasis[1]. Evidence for specific disease mechanisms has not been described for MIR548AT itself, and there are no known drugs interacting directly with this microRNA nor clear clinical biomarker or safety data available. MicroRNAs are not conventionally considered "therapeutic targets" like receptors or enzymes, though their dysregulation can be functionally important in human disease and may be evaluated as biomarkers or investigational targets for RNA-based therapeutics[4].
