microRNA 548au is a primate-specific, short noncoding RNA belonging to the poorly conserved miR-548 family[2][3]. Members of this family have broad regulatory roles in gene expression, primarily through binding to target mRNAs to suppress translation or promote degradation. The family is distributed throughout human chromosomes and thought to originate from transposable elements, resulting in genetic diversity and dynamic expression profiles across cell types[2]. While other members of the miR-548 family are implicated in cancer progression and regulation of cell migration, invasion, and EMT[1][2], there is currently no direct experimental evidence for the biological function or disease relevance of microRNA 548au specifically[2][3]. No drugs, biomarkers, or clinical safety concerns are associated with this microRNA, and it is not regarded as a therapeutic target but as a component of gene regulatory networks.
