MicroRNA 548ba (MIR548BA) is a short, 20–24 nucleotide, non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA family. It is involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to complementary sequences on target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), resulting in either translational repression or target degradation[1]. MIR548BA is intronic, transcribed from within the follicle stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) gene, and plays a regulatory role in granulosa cells. Experimentally validated targets of MIR548BA include genes such as LIFR (leukemia inhibitory factor receptor), PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homolog), NEO1 (neogenin 1), and SP110, all of which are involved in cell signaling pathways relevant to ovarian follicle development, cell growth, and apoptosis[2]. While MIR548BA is implicated in ovarian biology, no direct clinical or therapeutic applications are currently established[2].
